Your mission deserves center stage

HMH Creative Consulting

I provide consulting services to arts and cultural organizations focused on financial stability, strategic clarity, and sustainable program development. I specialize in working with small to mid-sized nonprofits navigating periods of transition, constrained resources, or growth inflection points.

My work is practical, funder-aware, and board-ready—designed to help organizations make sound decisions they can actually implement.

Grounded in real-world nonprofit operations

Sensitive to board, staff, and funder dynamics

Emphasis on clarity, feasibility, and accountability

Collaborative, respectful, and mission-driven

Who are You?

You’re the kind of organization that cares deeply about your mission—but is carrying more complexity than your current systems were designed to hold. You don’t necessarily need to be “fixed.” You need clarity, alignment, and a few well-placed structural improvements that make everything else easier.

You likely see yourself in one of these situations:

HMH

I’m Hollis

I began my career in the arts as a ballet dancer, where I developed a deep appreciation for discipline, collaboration, and the relationship between vision and execution. That foundation continues to shape how I approach leadership and organizational work today.

I transitioned from performance into arts administration and have spent more than twenty years as the director of a mission-driven organization. In that role, I have guided the organization through significant growth, change, and complexity while remaining grounded in its core mission and community relationships.

My experience includes leading the development and stewardship of a multi-million-dollar facility, managing a diverse portfolio of funding sources including state, federal, local, and foundation grants, and maintaining strong, ongoing relationships with patrons, families, and community partners. Alongside these responsibilities, I have worked closely with boards and leadership teams to ensure organizational stability, financial accountability, and mission alignment through periods of both expansion and uncertainty.

Over time, my work has been shaped by the realities of nonprofit leadership—balancing long-term strategy with day-to-day operational demands, navigating shifting funding landscapes, and supporting healthy relationships between boards, staff, and the communities they serve.

I now bring this experience to consulting work with nonprofit organizations navigating transition, complexity, or moments that require clear thinking and steady leadership support. My focus is on helping organizations strengthen alignment between mission, resources, and decision-making so they can move forward with confidence and clarity.

Why Work With Me?

Clear Direction

Helping you sort through everything on your plate and figure out what actually needs attention first.

A consultant helps you sort through the noise and focus on what actually matters next.

Fresh Perspective

An outside set of eyes to help you see what’s working, what’s not, and what might be getting missed.

An outside voice can spot opportunities and challenges that are hard to see from inside the organization.

Stronger Budgets

I can help make your numbers clearer, more realistic, and easier to manage with confidence.

Making your numbers easier to understand and use, so budgeting feels less stressful and more grounded.

Extra Hands, Right Skills

You get experienced support exactly when you need it, without adding a permanent staff position.

Stepping in where you need support most, without the time and cost of bringing on a full-time hire.

Easier Transitions

Whether things are shifting or growing, I can help keep everything steady and on track.

Supporting you through change so the “in-between” moments feel more manageable and less chaotic.

Better Fundraising Flow

I can help sharpen your story and strategy so fundraising feels more focused and effective.

Helping clarify your story and approach so fundraising feels more intentional and less scattered.

Smoother Systems

Let me look at how things run day-to-day and help make them simpler and more sustainable.

Looking closely at how things get done and helping streamline them so work feels lighter and more sustainable.

Stronger Programs

I will support you in shaping programs that are clear, purposeful, and connected to your mission.

Supporting the development of programs that are clear, purposeful, and truly aligned with your mission.

Making space for the work only you can do.
